The United Coalition for
Advanced Nuclear Power

UCAN Power is a non-partisan, consensus-based, organization of nuclear energy technology developers, operators, and advocates across the energy, space, environmental, and national economic and security sectors.

UCAN Power is led by a core group of subject matter experts with extensive background in executive branch policy, federal budgets/funding, legislative development/advocacy, and technology transitions from development to operational deployment and commercial use.

Our Vision

The U.S. nuclear industry will lead the world in developing, manufacturing, and deploying advanced reactor technologies to provide safe, clean, and affordable energy across a wide range of applications.

Our Mission

Educate, promote, and advocate for policies to accelerate the development of advanced reactor technologies to meet global electricity demands, provide process heat for industrial applications, support national defense requirements, provide power and propulsion for space operations, produce medical isotopes, and meet other commercial, military, and government needs.

Our Intent

Advanced reactors – which include an array of technologies and designs that include small, micro, and modular reactors – are the future of the nuclear industry. In the United States, advanced reactors are defined in law [*] as having additional inherent safety features; significantly lower levelized cost of electricity; lower waste yields; greater fuel utilization; enhanced reliability; increased proliferation resistance; increased thermal efficiency; or the ability to integrate into electric and nonelectric applications.

UCAN Power seeks to accelerate the development and application of these technologies by accomplishing the following actions:

  • Advocate for credible, affordable business cases for development, production, and long-term sustainment

  • Increase public awareness and build support for the safety and diversity of applications and siting

  • Support the increase of nuclear power generation to meet global demand in emerging energy markets

  • Pursue policies that create long-term growth of domestic government, military, and commercial markets

  • Raise public and private investment for research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E), and deployment

  • Support programs to rapidly develop, test and demonstrate advanced technologies

  • Raise awareness of a robust U.S. nuclear industrial base and workforce as a national security imperative

  • Join other associations, trade organizations and stakeholders to develop and promote effective safety standards/protocols through the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
